VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) or SMF (Sealed Maintenance Free) batteries do not require periodic topping-up of distilled water. Because these batteries are completely sealed, these are spill proof and normally do not emit any harmful fumes or gases. VRLA/ SMF batteries are best suitable for applications where back-up is required. The most common application of VRLA/SMF batteries is in Online UPS and are therefore referred to as UPS batteries. VRLA/ SMF batteries are generally categorized in 2 types i.e. Gel Batteries and AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) batteries.
